Overseas Filipino Divorces Hold No Legal Weight at Home, Justice Department Clarifies
The Philippine Department of Justice has clarified that Filipino citizens who obtain divorces outside the country remain legally married under Philippine law, regardless of the validity of foreign divorce decrees. Marriage can only be dissolved through annulment or legal separation.
