Universiti Malaysia Terengganu has secured a substantial international research grant valued at RM3.9 million to undertake an ambitious mangrove restoration initiative spanning three years. The funding represents a significant boost for Malaysia's efforts to preserve and rehabilitate its critical coastal ecosystems whilst simultaneously addressing the economic needs of communities dependent on these environments. Associate Prof Dr Behara Satyanarayana from the Institute of Oceanography and Environment and Dr Giovanna Wolswijk from the Faculty of Marine Science and Environment will lead the initiative, which runs from July 2026 to June 2029.
