Regulatory authorities executed a raid on an unlicensed electronic waste processing and storage operation in Bukit Mertajam yesterday, resulting in the recovery of materials estimated to be worth RM3 million.
The enforcement action led to the apprehension of five individuals connected to the illegal operation. The seized cache of discarded electronic components and related materials had been stored and processed at the facility without proper licensing or regulatory oversight.
Official sources indicated that the facility had been operating in breach of environmental and waste management regulations. The volume of contraband e-waste uncovered suggests a significant scale of unlicensed activity in the area.
The seizure forms part of heightened efforts to combat illegal waste processing operations that pose environmental and public health risks. Authorities continue to investigate the scope of the operation and the distribution network associated with the confiscated materials.
The five suspects remain in custody as investigations proceed. Regulatory agencies have pledged to intensify monitoring of suspected e-waste operations across the region.
