Between January and mid-July this year alone, Selangor's educational institutions produced 10,111 TVET graduates—a substantial cohort that requires effective placement mechanisms to translate educational credentials into employment outcomes. Nevertheless, the broader labour market data reveals complexity beneath surface employment numbers. During the same seven-month window, Selangor recorded 78,030 job vacancies requiring diploma-level qualifications or higher. Within this total, only 3,965 positions materialised in advanced sectors including automotive engineering, semiconductor manufacturing, and software development—roles demanding sophisticated technical competencies. This mismatch indicates that while quantity of vacancies appears healthy, the distribution across skill levels and sectors creates genuine challenges for graduates and employers alike.

To conduct meaningful skills mapping, state authorities must access comprehensive data from universities and technical institutions regarding graduate outputs across different fields and programmes. This requirement for institutional coordination exposes an organisational challenge within Malaysian education and workforce systems: different institutions operate with limited cross-sector information sharing, complicating efforts to achieve labour market alignment. Without reliable intelligence on graduate production by field and location, policymakers cannot confidently direct training investments or counsel students toward credentials with genuine local employment prospects.
