The government's decision to resolve the protracted housing situation faced by Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents demonstrates its determination to tackle long-standing community challenges, according to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. Speaking after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent housing development, Ramanan said the initiative reflected the administration's pledge not to allow people's problems to be passed on to future generations.
Under the permanent housing project, each qualifying household will receive two new residential units at no cost. Ramanan noted that this scheme will provide substantial relief to the urban poor community in Kuala Lumpur. He stressed that the Prime Minister's decision represented a firm commitment that justice would not be delayed for ordinary citizens.
The initiative also includes an additional RM1 million grant to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for area maintenance spanning three years. Ramanan, who represents the Sungai Buloh constituency, emphasized that despite the project's modest financial scope, its significance for residents who have endured prolonged uncertainty cannot be overstated.
The Bukit Kiara Longhouse resettlement dispute stretched across more than 40 years before residents' advocates initiated legal proceedings from 2018 onwards. The resolution ultimately achieved a more equitable outcome while preserving Taman Rimba Kiara, sidestepping earlier contested development proposals that had threatened the green space.
